Bekal Fort is largest fort in Kerala located 19 kms away from Kasargod district. The fort holds a very long history and is believed that it was build by the Sivappa Naik of Ikkeri Dynasty in 1650. More then 350 years old the fort holds great historical importance and is heritage of Kerala. Owing to its importance and grandeur architecture, Bekal Fort is visited by great number of tourists from across India and abroad.
The most uniqueness features of the fort are that there are no palaces inside the fort. There are underground tunnels, sea bastion and observation towers which are impressive and tourists can really find the history engraved in every corner of the walls of this majestic fort. It was built on the area of 40 acres along the Arabian Sea for the defensive purpose from the enemies attacking from the sea route. Since ages the forts draws the attention of tourists, nature loves and historians. Today the fort is managed by the Archaeological Survey of India and is one of the important tourism attractions in Kerala.
How to Reach: Kasargod railway station is located just 16 kms away from the forts and it make the tour to Bekal for much easier and comfortable.
